Fetal Development Presentation

If you'd like Edmonton Prolife to present to your class or group on fetal development, call Karen at the office at 425-1637. Our presentation includes a video on fetal development, models of the unborn at various stages of the pregnancy, and several full-colour pamphlets for students to take home.

This presentation could be particularly useful in conjunction with teaching Health and Life Skills.

From Alberta Learning's Outline of 'Health and Life Skills' Outcomes:

"Grade Five - Identify the basic components of the human reproductive system, and describe the basic functions of the various components; e.g., fertilization, conception.

Grade Six - Identify and describe the stages and factors that can affect human development from conception through birth."

There are two documentaries you can choose to be shown to your class:

Preview of a Birth - An award-winning medically accurate video on fetal development. This fascinating video chronicles the journey from conception to birth, with an astounding full-color view of life within the womb. 15 minutes.

In The Womb - DVD - National Geographic's groundbreaking documentary of human life from conception to birth. With 3-D ultrasound video, it's a look into the womb the likes of which you've never seen before. 90 minutes. (NEWLY RELEASED IN CANADA! Also available from the Edmonton Public Library.)

Fetal Model Set: SOMSO (a German company which makes anatomical, zoological, and biological models) produced this set of fetal models for education. These models are highly detailed and scientifically accurate. They show development from the first through the seventh month. Each model is mounted on a sturdy stand, and the babies in the larger models are removable, so your students can examine them closely.
